My name is Rachel Chuang, a second year biochemistry student at Queen’s University, and I came from Taipei, Taiwan. I love to play basketball, watch Netflix, travel, and I enjoy the ocean view. I enrolled in this course because I am curious of what employment relation is and how it can influence us in the future. Through enrolling in this course, I hope I will be able to know more about what employment relation is and how it is like in Canada specifically.

Hi Rachel! I am Suxun who also come from China. i would like to go and visit Taipei next time in vacation cause i have heard about so many good food attracts me. I am really interested in studying employment relations because I think it is very important to my career life in the future. I think the employment relations studies people’s workplaces, how do they interact with their bosses or colleagues, what cause their workplaces change and so on. We need to face different people in our daily life so it is crucial for us to know how to resolve people’s conflicts between them. My dream job is to be a leader of a company, I think not only I should have leadership but also I need to know what exactly my employers really need. For a leader, it is necessary for him to know how to manage their employers. There is a large population that people suicide because of experiencing violence from their bosses or colleagues at workplace. I have read the modules 1 on our onq and I have noticed that with the development of the technology, people’s workplaces are changing really fast. Some of our traditional skills are not needed when we living in such a high technology world. However, “while it creates efficiencies, it has the dual impact of both deskilling many formally skilled jobs, but also creating new demands for skilled technicians.” (From module 1 transcript) The workplaces are changing rapidly right now with several reasons. They are come from economic aspect, social aspect and political aspect. These are the things that really interested me in the first week and what do you think about the current changes of our workplaces. By the way, what is your dream job ? Finally, learning EMPR can tell me how to be an effective employer in the future. Are there any other issues that you think may happen in our employment relations?

I really enjoyed reading your introduction. I love your picture, it’s absolutely stunning! I too love the ocean, I live in Vancouver and am surrounded by it. Taiwan’s employment structure must be very different from Canada, it will be really interesting to learn the differences and culture shift. Do you have any work experience in Canada or Taiwan? Do you know of any work-related differences already between the two countries? I think competition is one of the major differences. In countries where good-paying jobs are competitive to get, work ethics can be a major difference, workers are more inclined to accept extra work-load and overtime and be okay with it.
